Driverless Uber Rides Will Eliminate Jobs

From the Post-Gazette's reporting on Uber's introduction of driverless ride-share vehicles on the streets of our city, I get the impression that we're all expected to be thrilled that Pittsburgh is on the cutting edge of eliminating a few million more jobs in this country. I for one am not.

Instead, I'm disgusted that our mayor has become the chief lobbyist for this job-destroying company. Bill Peduto, elected as a liberal Democrat, now sounds like a right-wing advocate of unregulated "free market" capitalism. Recently, Mr. Peduto told The New York Times, "It's not our role to throw up regulations or limit companies like Uber." Just let corporations do whatever they want, and everything will work out for the best.
