Jury Selection Continues in Trial of Ex-NFL Player

Jury selection continued Tuesday in Superior Court in Paterson for Ausar Walcott, a former NFL player and Hackensack High School football star accused of assaulting a man at a Passaic nightclub.

Walcott, 26, is accused of punching 24-year-old Derrick Jones of New York City outside the Palace Gentlemen's Club on Main Avenue on June 23, 2013. The punch left Jones in critical condition at a hospital, and he was treated for months for brain injury from the assault, authorities said.

Walcott was initially charged with attempted murder but was later indicted on a less serious charge of aggravated assault. He faces five to 10 years in prison if he is convicted.

Walcott's attorney, Miles Feinstein, has said Walcott punched Jones in self-defense after he and his friends were surrounded and attacked by a group of up to 20 men outside the club. …
