Paterson Man Shot; a Suspect Escapes

PATERSON -- A 23-year-old city man was shot in the buttocks Sunday afternoon, bringing the total number of shootings in the city this month to 14.

Police were called to the area of Governor and Carroll streets about 2 p.m. on a report of gunshots. A short time later, the victim turned up at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center, having been driven in a private vehicle, Police Director Jerry Speziale said in a prepared statement.

The victim, who was in stable condition, is the 63rd person wounded by gunfire in the city this year. An additional 14 people have died from gunshot wounds. There have been 68 shooting incidents this year.

The city has seen as many shootings this month, 14, as in August, a figure that is among the highest monthly totals for shootings in the past five years. …
