Oakland Hopes to Use Grant to Buy Band Shell for Park

OAKLAND -- A band shell would be installed at Great Oak Park under the borough's plans to develop a public performance venue there.

The borough intends to apply for a Bergen County Park Improvement Grant to buy the band shell and place it next to the proposed great lawn area in the easternmost corner of the park.

"This year, the Recreation Commission would like to request $50,000 toward the purchase and installation of the proposed band shell in Great Oak Park," Borough Administrator Richard Kunze said at the Sept. 14 Borough Council meeting. Because it is a matching grant, the borough would be responsible for the balance of the project.

Recreation Commission Chairman Mike Guadagnino, who spearheaded the Great Oak Park restoration project, spoke about the potential uses for the band shell.
