LEONIA -- A dentist with three children in the school district will fill the Board of Education seat vacated last month when Archer Irby was arrested on sexual-contact charges.

Zina Schuller will complete the remainder of Irby's three-year term, which will end Dec. 31, and said she will consider running for one of three open seats in November's election as a write-in candidate. Only two candidates will be on the ballot.

The board interviewed three individuals before choosing Schuller for Irby's short-term seat. Schuller will be sworn in Tuesday.

Schuller said she put her name in contention at the prompting of her daughter, who "planted the seed and made me really think about it."

Though she had volunteered as a class mother and helped out at bake sales when her children were young, Schuller said she wanted to commit to something more constant now that two of her children are in high school and another is in middle school. …
