Patron Admits Murdering Bar Bouncer in North St. Louis County

ST. LOUIS COUNTY * A St. Louis man admitted Monday that he murdered a bouncer on the opening night of a north St. Louis County bar in November 2014.

Jamal T. Martin, 35, of the 5400 block of Partridge Avenue in St. Louis' Walnut Park neighborhood, pleaded guilty of second-degree murder and armed criminal action in the Nov. 22, 2014, killing of Herbert Burnett.

Martin's case was set for trial this week but he pleaded guilty instead. Circuit Judge Tom D. DePriest Jr. sentenced Martin to 30 years in prison.

Burnett, 30, of St. Louis, worked at the Knockouts Bar & Grill at 11208 West Florissant Avenue, in the Clock Tower plaza.

Police have said Burnett had ordered Martin to leave the bar. Martin waited outside but returned a short time later through an exit-only door as patrons were leaving, and shot Burnett. …
