If you liked this summer, you should love early fall in Southwest Florida.

Technically, fall starts today and forecasters say you can forget about "crisp" weather -- unless you're talking about your skin in the sun. Highs have been in the 90s for much of September, including five scorching days of 95 this month, including one, on Sept. 9, that tied a record. The average high this month has been 91.4. Usually this time of year, the thermometer tops out at 88 degrees.

Nighttime hasn't brought relief, either. The average overnight low for late September is 72 to 74 degrees, but the lowest temperature so far this month is 76 degrees. Nine days the low has been 78 or higher.

And more of the same is in store.

"Continued summer," said National Weather Service forecaster Andrew McKaughan, summarizing the outlook for the next 10 days. …
