Grand Jury Indicts Former Fort Leavenworth Hospital Employee on Charges He Attacked and Injured 2 Women

A federal grand jury on Wednesday indicted a civilian hospital employee on charges that he attacked and injured two women earlier this month at Fort Leavenworth's Munson Army Health Center.

Clifford Currie, 54, of Leavenworth, threw gasoline or another inflammable liquid on his supervisor, Katie Ann Blanchard, lit her on fire and assaulted her with a straight-edge razor and scissors, acting U.S. Attorney for Kansas Tom Beall said in a news release.

When co-worker Deanne Killian heard screams and saw Blanchard on fire from the chest up, she came to her aid.

Beall said Killian was injured trying to put out the fire and stop Currie's assault on Blanchard.

Currie was subdued by hospital employees, then arrested by U.S. Army Military Police, according to the release. …
