MANCHESTER Giants' new boys had a 'rude awakening' in their opening game defeat.

And there will be no respite tonight when they travel to powerhouse Newcastle Eagles following their 90-56 loss to Glasgow Rocks.

Giants were without new big men Donatas Visokis - who only arrived in the UK last night - and Richard Bell, who is recovering from injury.

Head coach Yorick Williams is hoping Visokis will be able to hit the ground running but Bell will not be ready for a couple of weeks.

Williams said: "We were undermanned and some players were a bit overwhelmed by the pace of the BBL.

"It was a bit of a rude awakening. At Newcastle we will have to play hard and to the best of our abilities."

Williams - who had not planned on playing this season - was pressed into action because of the shortages last week. …
