1938 The Pittsburgh Housing Authority announced its first low- cost housing project would be located in the Hill District and named Bedford Dwellings.

1950 Two hundred mailing-room employees failed to report for work because of a contract dispute, forcing the Sun-Telegraph, Press and Post-Gazette to suspend publication and idle 2,500 other employees.

1982 Sony debuted the first consumer compact disc player in Japan with a list price of about $730

2000The Pittsburgh Pirates played their last game at Three Rivers Stadium, losing to the Chicago Cubs, 10-9.
