MANATEE HIGH

BRADENTON -- Dozens of students at Manatee High School took part in a Black Lives Matter protest Thursday morning, and the event went off without incident, a school district spokesman said.

Forty to 50 students, many dressed in all black, participated in the peaceful protest before the start of school in one of Manatee High's courtyards and then dispersed once the bell rang, spokesman Mike Barber said.

The rally was in response to a Manatee High student who was photographed among a group of students holding a Confederate flag with the words "Trump 2016'' visible.

The Confederate flag incident took place on Wednesday morning during "Spirit Week'' at Manatee High as part of the homecoming festivities. …
