Fatal Shooting Unnerves Neighbors

ONECO -- Kristin Pol Garcia told her 10-year-old child to look the other way as they passed a house where a dead man lay in the front yard Thursday morning.

The 31-year-old mother of four was leading her kids around a block of yellow crime scene tape so they could get on the school bus.

Shootings, fights and break-ins are a daily occurrence in the Oneco neighborhood.

According to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office:

Deputies responding at about 6:20 a.m. to a 911 call found Charles E. Saffore Jr., 36, dead at the corner of 10th Street Court East and 58th Avenue Drive. Saffore's body

had a least one gunshot wound.

Garcia said she was awake tending to her sick son most of the night but did not hear any shots.

She came outside and saw the man lying in the grass, and one deputy nearby.

"I have four small children, and it's very scary," Garcia said. …
