Celebrate Autumn with 4-H

Article excerpt

Set down the rake and celebrate autumn at the 4-H and master gardener fall harvest festival from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. next Saturday and Sunday in Van Saun Park, 216 Forest Ave., Paramus.

"The fair gives our 4-H members an opportunity to display the projects they have worked on throughout the year, and also lets the residents of Bergen County get firsthand advice and information about proper horticultural practices with an emphasis on organic techniques from our trained master gardeners," said 4-H program assistant Monique Bliss.

Bliss adds, "We hope everyone will join us to kick off autumn in Bergen County with this fun family event. The county fair is a yearly tradition that highlights what Rutgers Cooperative Extension does best, and we are thrilled to be back in Van Saun County Park, the crown jewel of our county parks system."

This year's celebration will feature a craft fair, carnival rides, archery, farmers' market, face painting, pumpkin picking and a midway. There will also be animal rescue groups, a chick hatching display and small farm animals.

Demonstrations will include beekeeping, bonsai, K-9 and self- defense. A science show by Mad Science, a magician, Irish step dancers and plenty of bands are also on the schedule.

Free admission and parking.
