Staying on schedule

The Mets decided to stick to their schedule, and Robert Gsellman started Friday while Bartolo Colon will start this afternoon against the Phillies. There had been come consideration to start Colon to allow him to be available to start a possible wild card game on regular rest if needed, but the team decided against it.

"The best thing is to not try to get too cute and to allow them to have their regular rest and their regular routine and then go from there," manager Terry Collins said before Friday's game. "[Colon] bought in and he said that was great with him, so that's what we're going to do."

The standings also dictated the decision since the Mets were one game ahead of the Giants and two games ahead of the Cardinals in the wild-card hunt entering Friday's action.

"We got everybody set up to where they're natural going to pitch and let's leave it," Collins said. "If we have to make adjustments because we have some success [Friday] and somebody else gets beat then we can make other adjustments. …
