As a woman, I am greatly distraught by the pending actions of the state Senate - people we elect to serve the interests of Pennsylvania residents and communities. House Bill 1948 would be a giant step backward for reproductive rights. The bill would impose a 20-week abortion ban and criminalize the safest medical procedure for second-trimester abortions.

The legislation is currently being considered by the Senate. The House has already passed the measure. Neither chamber has held public hearings. Why is it that this bill is being fast-tracked through both chambers without any discussion or input by those who would be affected? Where is the public discourse?

Reproductive rights should not be an issue to help bolster political campaigns or careers, but that seems to be all that this bill is about. …
