Shawnee County to Replace Culvert North of Topeka

The Shawnee County Commission will consider replacing a washed- out culvert north of Topeka for up to $200,000.

That item is among others on the agenda Thursday, when commissioners Kevin Cook, Shelly Buhler and Bob Archer meet at 9 a.m. in Room B-11 of the Shawnee County Courthouse, 200 S.E. 7th.

A culvert in the 4100 block of N,W. Fielding Road washed away during heavy rains Sept. 24. Public works director Tom Vlach said following a meeting last week that while the road is maintained by the township, the bridge was the county's responsibility. He estimated the cost of replacing the culvert at between $150,000 and $200,000.

In other business, the commission will acknowledge the sheriff's office's purchase of eight 2017 police package Chevy Tahoes from Don Hattan Chevrolet on state contract for $299,954. …
