Kansas Insurance Industry, Area Colleges Partner to Boost Workforce

Bolstering the number of college students choosing a career in the state's $18 billion-a-year insurance industry is the focus of a new program supported by the Kansas Board of Regents, the Kansas Insurance Commissioner's Office, several insurance companies and the Kansas Insurance Education Foundation, or KIEF.

"We have a growing industry here in Kansas, both the insurance industry and the financial services industry," said Kansas Insurance Commissioner Ken Selzer. "We're trying very hard to encourage those companies to grow and prosper here by having an adequate number of employees who can participate in the industry."

Selzer said with the aging of the baby-boomer population, there are more insurance professionals leaving the industry than those who are entering it. …
