Jose Wanted McNair to Be a Loan Star and Not Leave

PADDY McNair has admitted Jose Mourinho did not want him to leave United on a permanent transfer and only wanted him to go on loan.

The 21-year-old academy graduate joined Sunderland this summer after making 27 firstteam appearances for United under Louis van Gaal. He went on the club's pre-season tour of China in July but the Portuguese manager told him on his return that he was keen for him to go on loan.

McNair has now explained how he persuaded Mourinho to allow him to move to the north east on a permanent transfer.

He said: "I went on the pre-season tour and after I spoke to Mourinho he said to me he would like me to go out on loan.

"I had a think about it, I never wanted to go on loan. I was adamant I wanted to go on a permanent move. I spoke to Mourinho for a couple of weeks and basically persuaded him to let me go on a permanent deal. …
