Kamryn Babb

CBC football

A 6-foot-2, 190-pound junior wide receiver/defensive back, Babb caught 10 passes for 220 yards and a touchdown and rushed four times for 67 yards in a 65-59 win over Jefferson City. The previous week, Babb set the tone for a 48-21 rout of St. Louis U. High by catching three TD passes in the first quarter. He is among the area leaders in receptions (39), TDs (13) and receiving yards (701). Last season, Babb earned all-state honors as a wide receiver after catching 41 passes for 902 yards and 10 touchdowns. He carries offers from Missouri, Ohio State, Michigan State, Nebraska, Iowa and Wisconsin.

Tommy Bauer

Triad football

A 5-foot-8, 165-pound senior quarterback, Bauer carried the ball 19 times for 300 yards and five touchdowns in a 56-7 win over Mascoutah. He had TD runs 68, 42, 2, 21 and 40 yards. Bauer is one of the area leaders in rushing yards (833) and TDs (18) and is averaging 7.7 yards per carry. It was the best rushing total of the season for Bauer, who had 100-yard games against Mattoon (178), Waterloo (112) and Jerseyville (103). A second-year starter, Bauer rushed for 542 yards and seven TDs as a junior. He also plays lacrosse.

Hillsboro softball

A senior pitcher/first baseman, Close continued her hot hitting last week and is among the area leaders in batting average (.568), home runs (10), triples (4), RBI (41), runs (30) and on-base percentage (.600). In four games, she went 5-for-9 with a home run, a double, two walks, four RBI and two stolen bases. She also picked up a win as a pitcher with three shutout innings, striking out five Lafayette hitters, and is 10-2 with a 0.86 ERA. A first-team all- Jefferson County shortstop last season, Close has committed to the University of West Georgia.

After leading the Vikings to the tournament title at Blue Springs South two weekends ago, Cordia ran the potent Howell offense at the Pattonville Pirate Classic last weekend, leading her team to another title. Cordia put up big numbers in straight-set wins over Pattonville (2 aces, 1 kill, 3 digs, 16 assists), Rosati-Kain (2 aces, 1 kill, 4 digs, 21 assists, 1 block), Parkway South (2 aces, 2 kills, 5 digs, 16 assists), Kirkwood (3 aces, 2 kills, 8 digs, 24 assists, 3 blocks) and Webster Groves (5 digs, 27 assists). …
