Fines of Pounds 70 for Parking in Child Space

TESCO is going to tackle the problem of drivers without children parking in parent bays or wrongly using disabled spaces.

They are trialling a scheme where shoppers who abuse the system are slapped with Pounds 70 fines.

Supermarket staff will be given a smartphone app to capture information. They will take pictures of drivers who don't have children under 12 or a blue badge.

Tesco will then send the evidence it collects to a private company which will issue fines of Pounds 40 if paid immediately rising to Pounds 70 after 14 days.

The scheme is currently being trialled in 81 stores in London and across the South West of England, but is expected to be rolled out to more including those in Greater Manchester.

Tesco says it is not a moneymaking scheme as the fines will only cover the costs plus fees. …
