TWO fitness workers have sparked new hopes of a future for a dilapidated leisure centre.

Steve Eves and Jake Booth hope to take over and revive the building in Chorlton and are trying to garner community support at a public meeting later this month.

The centre closed in June last year, despite protests and a petition by residents and traders to save it.

The dilapidated venue on Manchester Road was replaced by a brand new state-of-the-art facility at Hough End.

Now the Chorlton Community Leisure group hopes to operate the centre as a community facility.

Steve, 34, said he and Jake, 22, are working on a business plan and application to submit to Manchester council. He said: "We would like to keep it as a leisure centre as we believe that's what the community really wants. …
