The Bigger Picture of Piccadilly Repair Work ; Aerial Image Shows Progress of Scheme to Get Fountains Working

THIS aerial image shows work beginning on a Pounds 400,000 project to repair the fountains at Piccadilly Gardens.

The site has been closed-off since the start of the month, and workmen have now moved in to fix the ill-fated attraction.

The fountains are expected to open again early next year.

The photograph, taken by a worker in offices which overlook the site, shows how the temporary fencing has now been replaced by a more permanent structure which surrounds the site and features information and facts about the gardens.

Ground will need to be dug up to allow a crane to lift out and replace broken machinery in underground tanks which power the fountains.

The overhead image shows that this has already started.

The fountains have run dry since they last broke down in May 2014.

As part of the repair project, the tanks, pumps, the filtration system and granite surfacing will all be replaced, and the area will be returfed.

When the fountains reopen, which is expected in January, they are set to look much the same. …
