After winning two Big 12 games on the road over the weekend, the WVU women's soccer team is ranked No. 1 in the topdrawersoccer.com top 25 poll for the second time this season. The Mountaineers (12-1- 1, 4-0 in conference play) beat Kansas 1-0 on Oct. 7 and Iowa State 2-0 Oct. 9. Senior defender Kadeisha Buchanan was named Student Athlete of the Week by University Apartments for her play in the two shutouts. The WVU women are ranked No. 2 in both the NCAA RPI and TDS.com polls.

WVU MEN'S SOCCER: The No. 22 Mountaineers out-shot No. 1 Maryland, but lost 1-0 on Monday night in front of one of the largest crowds in program history.

Before a crowd of 2,019 - the fourth-largest crowd to see a men's match at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium and the largest since 2010 - the Mountaineers (6-4-1) recorded 15 shots, eight on goal. WVU held the top-ranked Terrapins (10-0-2) to eight shots, just two on goal. Maryland's goal came in the 26th minute, off the foot of Amar Sejdic, to extend UM's winning streak to seven matches and its shutout streak to five straight games.

UM's eight shots marked a season low, while Monday was the second time this season Maryland was held to just two shots on goal. West Virginia's 16 shots tied a season high for a Terrapin opponent and the Mountaineers' eight shots on goal is the first time all season a UM opponent has sent more than five shots on net.

MEC GOLF: The University of Charleston women's golf team leads the Mountain East Conference Golf Championship after the first round Monday at Glade Springs Resort in Daniels.

The Golden Eagles finished the round with a 331, 21 shots better than defending champion Wheeling Jesuit, who sits in second place after the first day. Notre Dame shot 353 to end the day third. UC's Lauren Crouse shot a 76 to lead the field, and Concord's Natalia Jornet shot a 78 to finish the round in second. …
