Franklin Regional 21, Penn-Trafford 16 Panthers Hang on for Fourth Consecutive Victory

Franklin Regional's 0-2 start is a distant memory after the Panthers picked up their fourth consecutive win Friday night at Penn-Trafford.

Allowing 14 points per game before the game, the Panthers' defense was up to the task again, holding on at the end for a 21-16 win against the No. 3 Warriors in a pivotal Class 5A Big East Conference showdown.

The Panthers never trailed, taking a 7-0 lead in the second quarter on a 73-yard touchdown run by sophomore Nate Leopold. It was the first of two scores for Leopold.

The momentum continued to swing in Franklin Regional's favor at the end of the first half when junior Bryce Lauer blocked a Penn-Trafford field-goal attempt to keep it 7-0.

The Warriors gave the home crowd something to cheer about in the third quarter when junior Cam Lafoon hooked up with senior Christian Jantz for a 16-yard touchdown pass that tied the score, 7-7. It was Lafoon's 14th touchdown pass this season.

The stout Franklin Regional defense was able to come up with a turnover later in the quarter deep in Penn-Trafford territory. …
