SURVIVAL in the jungle is not something that can be solved by eating a few bugs and having a nice chat with Ant and Dec. It's harsh and unforgiving, and this exhausting series shows just how gruelling it can be.

"The environment will chew you up and spit you out," shouts one of the ex-special forces soldiers who has been tasked with putting 25 ordinary civilians through their paces with true SAS training.

And it's a test like no other, one that makes even Bear Grylls look about as scary as a teddy bear.

The recruits are even dragged into random interrogations, black hoods over their heads, hands behind their backs, in the middle of the night. One of the SAS enforcers, Billy, says: "If you want to feel what it's going to be like in the jungle, put a house on your back, go in to the sauna, walk up and down the steps constantly and get somebody to smash you in the face with sticks. …
