ST. LOUIS * This isn't Gary Sumers' first multimillion-dollar donation to Washington University. It's not even his biggest.

But it is one that will draw some attention.

Sumers gifted $7 million to his alma mater for a new welcome center.

The all-glass pavilion is part of a $240 million renovation of the east side of campus.

The renovations are largely around the stretch of Brookings Drive between Brookings Hall and Skinker Boulevard.

Most of that space is parking lots right now, but starting next spring, it's getting a boost.

Sumers' gift earns him the namesake of the new welcome center, too.

The Gary M. Sumers Welcome Center will be the first stop for prospective students and other student visitors.

When construction is completed, the center will house an underground admissions office. …
