MIDLAND PARK -- Work on the Dairy Street fields is nearing completion, with the borough having assumed responsibility for the project in August.

The Borough Council had terminated a $346,500 contract with Trino Associates to renovate the fields, citing deviations from, and non- compliance with, the bid specifications.

The project should be completed this month, Councilman Mark Braunius, liaison to the Recreation Board, told the council late last month.

Renovations began about May 24 and were expected to be completed by July 15. The contractor requested an extension to July 25. The borough, meanwhile, had expended $134,870 of the $346,500 project's budget, with $211,630 remaining to complete the work.

Braunius reassured council members that "The project will be completed within budget. …
