Mourinho Mulled Taking Pogba off for Rashford

JOSE Mourinho considered replacing Paul Pogba with Marcus Rashford behind Zlatan Ibrahimovic after the United midfielder struggled in the playmaker role against Liverpool.

Pogba supported Ibrahimovic in a 4-4-1-1 formation but experienced a frustrating evening, with his only major contribution coming when his secondhalf cross was nodded wide by the Swede.

Mourinho felt Pogba could have offered United more penetration in attack but decided against switching him with Rashford over the fear of losing the game.

"We should have had a little bit more," Mourinho said.

"We missed a little bit of sharpness through the middle between the positions where Pogba was.

"I was expecting a bit more of penetration and in the moment I was thinking of to play Rashford in this position behind Zlatan. I made a change at that moment [Wayne Rooney for Rashford] as I thought it was difficult to win now, let's not lose it. …
