THERE is a good crop of Democrats running for the four seats in the 35th District of the House of Delegates: Andrew Byrd, Ben Adams, Thornton Cooper and Ben Sheridan. * First, incumbent Andrew Byrd, a lawyer and lifelong resident of South Charleston, was elected two years ago and did his best to guard the state from the ridiculous excesses of the current Legislature. He deserves to be returned to the House.

* Ben Adams is a lawyer from Charleston.

* Thornton Cooper, of South Charleston, has a long history and knowledge of state government both as a lawyer and retired state employee. He is a dogged and fair public servant.

* Ben Sheridan, originally from Lewisburg, is also a lawyer in Charleston.

All the Democratic candidates are more interested in solving the state's budget shortages than wasting time on distractions championed by the leadership of the current House of Delegates. …
