Brightwell, Blanche of Columbia passed away on September 26, 2016.She was born on March 30, 1930 in Clay Center, Kansas the daughter of Joseph Brown and Flava Berniece (Osenbaugh) Brown. Blanche graduated with a Bachelors of Science at Kansas University. As a single mother in the early 1960s, she found herself at the forefront of a movement. She became an unintentional leader in the women's liberation movement. She was employed in a profession that up until that time was solely the realm of males. She worked as a biochemist for Monsanto, Pfizer, and Pharmacia from 1962 until the early 2000s. She was actively involved with Altrusa, The Red Hat Society, Meals on Wheels, and book clubs around St. Louis for many years. She provided support for people in need, worked to give herself and her family a happy life, and traveled the world. …
