Mount Hope Man Jailed in Fayette Robbery Attempt

A Mount Hope man is custody after an attempted robbery at a Fayette County convenience store, according to deputies. The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ball's Grocery on W.Va. 16 near Fayetteville, according to a release from the Fayette County Sheriff's Department.

Ralph Jennings Ward, III, 34, of Mount Hope, is charged with second-degree robbery, according to the release.

"The investigation indicates that Ward did not actually obtain any money during this incident, Sheriff Steve Kessler said in the release. "He apparently attempted to intimidate the clerk into opening the cash drawer through the implied threat of a weapon, but fled due to the volume of traffic in this area before actually obtaining any money.

The suspect in the robbery was described as a white man with multiple tattoos, including tattoos on his face, who wore gray shorts, a camouflage shirt and a bandanna around his face. …
