Emerson Asks Residents for Help in Seeking Grant

EMERSON -- The town is asking residents to sign letters in support of its application for a state grant that officials hope will allow them to build a uniform streetscape along Kinderkamack Road.

Borough Administrator Bob Hoffmann said the town intends to apply for an $800,000 grant from the New Jersey Department of Transportation, and that gathering letters from residents in support of the project would bolster the chances of securing it.

"We want the streetscape and safety improvements along Kinderkamack Road to be the same, no matter where you are," Hoffmann said.

As work continues on the Kinderkamack Road improvement project -- which involves widening the county-owned road, adding turning lanes and installing two new traffic lights near Linwood Avenue -- Hoffmann said the grant would allow the borough to have a consistent streetscape along the busy thoroughfare, which runs from the southern border with Oradell to the northern boundary with Westwood. …
