There is a lot in the news about the increasing use of cell phones distracting drivers and bringing about a significant increase in the number of fatal and serious accidents.

Cell phones are not the only cause of distracted driving. One or two computer monitor screens in the dashboards of many newer cars are in and of themselves also a significant contributing cause of distracted driving.

These days, there are monitor screens that inform the driver of the average number of miles per gallon the car is getting, the estimated driving miles left on the current tank of gas, navigational directions and other statistics. Even the names and telephone numbers of incoming and outgoing calls and the title of a song, the identity of the performer and the year the song was released appear on the screen(s) for observation by the driver. …
