City Seeks Public Help in Website Redesign

Pittsburgh's official internet identity is about to see an overhaul - and designers want help from residents willing to take a look.

The city unveiled Thursday an electronic feedback channel at http://alpha.pittsburghpa.gov, where a development team wants to start a conversation with Pittsburghers about how best to rework the municipal website at http://pittsburghpa.gov.

A new design for that main website should appear by mid-2017, said Rich Marmura, the content supervisor leading the project.

"Alpha, for us, is about getting a diverse, representative consensus of what people want in a website," Mr. Marmura said, adding that the city wants "to understand how people use the website and what they would like to see in a new version."

"I think it would be really tempting for us to talk just to people who are really technologically savvy, but we're building a product that's for everyone," he said.

The Alpha site will showcase articles and videos about the city website's new design and development, inviting input and tracking progress, Mayor Bill Peduto's administration said in a statement. …
