As he has throughout the campaign, Democratic challenger Josh Gottheimer outdid Republican Rep. Scott Garrett in fundraising earlier this month, but new disclosures show both candidates were well-funded for a final push ahead of Election Day.

Preelection reports for Oct. 1 through Oct. 19 filed Thursday afternoon show Garrett raising $168,000, spending $1.2 million and having $1 million left for the campaign's final days. Gottheimer raised $296,000, spent $950,000 and had $1.9 million left.

Gottheimer's contributions include $2,700 each from financier George Soros, a major funder of liberal super PACs, and J. Christopher Flowers, a finance executive who oversaw Democratic Gov. Jon Corzine's personal investments when he was in office. Gottheimer also got $2,500 from the National Association of Letter Carriers PAC and $5,000 from the National Postal Mail Handlers Union PAC. …
