Jailed Man Now Faces Murder Charges

PATERSON -- A city man with two previous gun arrests was charged with murder in a case that originally was investigated as a suicide, Capt. Richard Reyes said.

Police officers went to a home on the 100 block of East 31st Street on Sept. 18 to investigate a report of a suicide and found a 22-year-old man with "what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head," said Reyes.

A subsequent investigation revealed that someone else had shot 22- year-old Floyd Tigney of Clifton, police said. Reyes declined to reveal what evidence convinced detectives that the case was not a suicide, nor would he say who reported the death to police as a suicide.

Police on Thursday charged Mickel Morgan, 23, with murder and weapons offenses. Reyes said Morgan already was in custody in the Bergen County Jail. …
