OF course MPs can't be everywhere at the same time, but I sometimes wonder at their prioritisation of responsibilities.

Last Wednesday the Europe Select Committee was probing international trade secretary Liam Fox about the trade deal with Canada and UK trade prospects post Brexit. The trade deal has been making the news throughout the last week and is controversial as the government has been refusing to let parliament discuss and vote on it.

I'm for increased trade and so watched the hearing online on parliament.tv. It showed our politicians at their best - working together maturely and challenging what often looked like evasions and inconsistencies. Two MPs should have been there as committee members but were absent.

And then there was a vote, put forward by Labour challenging the government on its supply of weapons to the Saudi government. …
