A ONE-MAN crimewave who held up five branches of Greggs at knifepoint has been sent to prison.

Shaun Fitzgerald's crime spree included two attacks on bakeries within an hour-and-ahalf of each other.

He tried to hold up the Didsbury branch of Greggs at 9.10am - and then hopped on the bus to Stockport and raided the Princess Street branch.

He also targeted branches at Manchester Road, Heaton Norris, at King Street West in the city centre, and at Wilmslow Road in Withington, leaving staff at the bakery chain terrified.

Now, after admitting robbery, attempted robbery and theft, Fitzgerald, 45, of Mendip Close, Heaton Norris, Stockport, has been jailed for 12 years, with an extended licence period of five years, under 'dangerousness' sentencing provisions. …
