MATTEO Darmian accepts he faces a constant battle to prove his worth at United.

The Italian has not been a regular for Jose Mourinho this season after a disappointing first campaign for the Reds last year.

Antonio Valencia has kept Darmian out of the starting side, but the Ecuadorian's arm fracture, that will keep him out for 'a while' according to Reds boss Mourinho, opened the door again for the defender against Burnley last Saturday.

There have been of a potential move back to Serie A in January, but asked if he was disappointed that he wasn't first choice at United, Darmian said: "No because I know that at United there are always top players and every day I have to fight for my position.

"I worked a lot in the first part of the season and I have to be ready when the manager gives me an opportunity. …
