The Legislature put the pedal to the metal after news broke that the financially challenged Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is owed about $49 million by toll scofflaws. A bill addressing the problem now sits on the desk of Gov. Tom Wolf, who should sign it so collection efforts can begin as soon as possible.

The Turnpike Commission last week released a list of the top two dozen commercial scofflaws - the biggest identified as Green Coast Logistics, a South Plainfield, N.J., firm owing $678,484. In all, the list of top commercial offenders includes 10 companies from New Jersey and eight from Pennsylvania, with their combined unpaid tolls totaling $1.5 million.But with unpaid tolls exceeding $49 million, the commission should be going after lots of drivers, commercial and otherwise. …
