Lib Dem Candidate Says Derelict Areas Must Be Used First

THE Lib Dem's Greater Manchester mayoral candidate has demanded that new homes are not built on the green belt until every single empty building - and every bit of derelict land - is exhausted.

Trafford councillor Jane Brophy has urged the region's super- council and the government to ensure 'precious' green spaces are protected.

Mrs Brophy said the housing masterplan risks 'destroying our green spaces' and 'depriving our children of the areas to grow and play in'.

She has demanded all old houses and buildings are redeveloped before bosses consider constructing new homes on green belt land.

Mrs Brophy added: "Before we open up the green belt for development, we must bring every empty home back into use, develop every old mill building, empty warehouse, factory, brownfield space and derelict piece of land. …
