Township Oks Payment on Rolling Hills Property Sale Price of 90-Acre Portion Must Still Be Determined

Peters council has unanimously authorized a $5.5 million payment to buy about 90 acres, or roughly half, of the former Rolling Hills Country Club property.

In September, council approved a bond issue not to exceed $9.76 million for the purchase of the property along East McMurray Road as well as a $1 million fire truck.

"We would like to make the payment so we can take possession of the property," said township manager Paul Lauer, who noted that the township has title to the property but not possession.

The township used eminent domain to acquire the property and will own the portion of the land with the buildings on it. It plans to use the land for park facilities and possibly a pool. The Peters Township School District is in the process of buying the other half of the property.

The $5.5 million is based on the lower of two appraisals done on the 90-acre portion of the property. …
