Bench ice cold

With the veteran starting lineup putting up big minutes and the lead fading, Knicks coach Jeff Hornacek chose to rest that unit by starting the fourth quarter with a complete bench group.

He put out a lineup of Kyle O'Quinn, Brandon Jennings, Mindaugas Kuzminskas, Lance Thomas and Justin Holiday with the team clinging to a two-point lead at the start of the quarter. But after 1:41, Hornacek had to call timeout and reinsert three of his starters. The lead was gone and the Knicks trailed by five after a quick 7-0 Jazz run.

"The hope is that you have confidence in your guys on the bench," Hornacek said. "You have to have confidence in them if they're going to go out there for a few minutes and give the starters some rest. Some nights, it's good, some nights it's not."

Hornacek has been struggling to find a rotation that works, but he has no choice because of the age and injury history of the starters. …
