Carrick 'Must Play' Every Game for Reds

FORMER United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel believes Michael Carrick must start for the Reds whenever he is fit.

The Dane, who won the Treble with United in 1999, was impressed with the 35-year-old midfielder's display in the 3-1 win over Swansea at the Liberty Stadium.

Given a start in central midfield alongside Marouane Fellaini and Paul Pogba, with Ander Herrera suspended, Carrick gave an influential performance that allowed Pounds 89m summer signing Pogba to do greater damage further forward.

Carrick's contract expires next summer and he has not featured frequently under Jose Mourinho.

But Schmeichel has added his name to the list of voices calling for the former Spurs man to start whenever possible as United look to address the inconsistent form that has left them sixth in the Premier League. …
