Her 'Voice' will be heard

We McDonald is in the Top 12. The 17-year-old "The Voice" competitor and Paterson resident easily clinched her spot on Monday's live playoff show.

McDonald, who graduated last year from Passaic County Technical Institute in Wayne, performed "Home" by Stephanie Mills from "The Wiz." Fans voted via Twitter and the show's official app to save her spot on Team Alicia Keys. The live voting was a new feature for the playoff rounds, and the contestants were whittled down from 20 to 12.

Last week, McDonald, who started college at William Paterson University in the fall, told The Record that she felt the show was "in the early stages" and that "there's still a lot more to be done."

"The Voice" didn't air Tuesday due to election coverage but will resume Monday. The Top 12 will continue to battle it out for the top spot and the grand prize of a recording contract.
