Pal Park Woman Fulfills Her 'Duty'

PALISADES PARK -- A bronchial infection kept 105-year-old Antonietta Vallese housebound for the past week.

But on Election Day she told her son she was going to the polls no matter what.

"I thought she might not feel up to it, but she said, 'No I'm going out to vote,' " Anthony Vallese said. "I'm 80, and she's been voting in every presidential election I can remember. She's not going to miss one."

Antonietta Vallese was a bit too tired to speak a few hours after she cast her ballot at Lindbergh Elementary School on Tuesday afternoon. Her son said she would not divulge her choice for president.

"She doesn't want any part of partisan politics," he said.

Antonietta Vallese was born in a small town in Abruzzo, Italy. She came to the Bronx when she was 18, just as the Great Depression engulfed the United States.

Anthony Vallese said he was unsure in which election his mother first voted. …
