Happ Hero Again for Seneca Valley Victory Gives Raiders Anotehr Match with Their Nemesis North Allegheny

Matt Happ is becoming quite proficient at scoring winning goals in overtime.

Seneca Valley's senior striker scored with 2:28 remaining in double overtime as the Raiders (19-1-1) rebounded from their overtime loss in the WPIAL 4A championship game to North Allegheny with a 1-0 victory against District 6 champion State College in the opening round of the PIAA tournament at Hollidaysburg.

With the win, Seneca Valley will get a fourth game with their Section 1 rival North Allegheny, which played Pine-Richland for the fourth time this season and extended its record to 3-0-1 against the Rams with a 2-1, double overtime victory at Mars.

Sean Atwater scored the winning goal with 4:12 remaining in the second overtime to set up a rematch Saturday with the Raiders in the quarterfinals. The site and time is to be determined.

Mars 2, Hollidaysburg 1: Austin Rocke scored the game-winner with less than five minutes remaining in regulation to help the Planets (17-4-1) pull out the win.

Chartiers Valley 4, Somerset 0: Josh DiMatteo scored twice, and Sean Tinney and Jack Barlow each scored once to help the WPIAL 3A champion Colts (18-4-0) to the win.

Quaker Valley 7, Bald Eagle Area 0: Landon Grant popped in three goals and Walter Hubsch two as Quaker Valley (18-4-0) moved into the quarterfinals.

Shady Side Academy 1, Mercyhurst Prep 0: Eric Zhang scored for the fourth time in the Indians five postseason games to help Shady Side Academy (15-3-1) into the quarterfinals for the first time since 2008.

Seton-LaSalle 1, Port Allegany 0: Junior Darryl Daniels scored his 40th goal of the season midway through the first half and Jake Gigliotti made it stand up with four saves for his ninth shutout of the season as the Rebels (21-2-0) advanced to the 1A quarterfinals for the second consecutive season.

Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic 6, Iroquois 0: Freshman Joe Kearney made the most of his first state playoff appearance with four goals and Nate Paras notched his 10th shutout for the Trojans (19-3-1). …
