Sarasota Golfsmith Survives Closures

Golfsmith is closing 60, or roughly two-thirds, of its U.S. retail stores but the Sarasota location isn't one of them.

The golfing retailer's parent company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization in September. Of Golfsmith's roughly 90 stores, only about 30, including the Sarasota location at 143 North Cattlemen Road, will remain open, according to the company.

Golfsmith will close three -- Altamonte Springs, Orlando and Boca Raton -- of its 10 stores in Florida. A fourth in Pembroke Pines closed a few weeks ago after the chain won court approval to shutter about 20 of its worst-performing stores.

Dick's Sporting Goods Inc. in late October bought Golfsmith's U.S. stores in a bankruptcy auction. Dick's also was the winning bidder in the bankruptcy auction for its former rival Sports Authority's intellectual property assets, which gave the company the right to

acquire the leases of 31 of its stores. …
