Anderson, Charles Bernard M.D. Charles Bernard Anderson was born May 24, 1938 and died on November 7, 2016. The son of C. Bernard Anderson and Georgia W. Binns, he was born in Clifton, New Jersey and resided in Clayton, Missouri. He is a graduate of Johns Hopkins Univ. and Yale Univ. School of Medicine. After completing an internship and residency at Barnes Hospital, he served in the U.S. Navy, assigned to the U.S. Marines as a medical officer. Dr. Anderson formally established the kidney transplant program at Barnes and was a pioneer in donor-specific transfusions that transformed the field of organ transplantation. He served as the Chief of Department of Surgery at Washington University School of Medicine. His influence is beyond measure and his legacy of empathy, discipline, excellence, generosity and kindness lives on in those that knew him. …
