NORTH PORT CITY COMMISSION DISTRICTS 1, 2, 3

NORTH PORT -- City voters wiped the commission slate clean Tuesday as Chris Hanks upended incumbent Mayor Jacqueline Moore, ensuring three new board members.

The new District 2 representative will be joined by a familiar face, former commissioner Vanessa Carusone in District 1, and another newcomer, Debbie McDowell in District 3.

This marked the first election that commissioners had to live in the district they chose to represent.

Ironically, Moore's desire to do just that will cost her in the short term. She resigned her current post as the District 4 representative after just two years so she could run in her home district.

Meanwhile, a controversial amendment to the city charter that was designed to close a loophole that allowed Carusone to run for her third term on the commission was approved as well, with 66. …
